What You’ll Be Doing

We are looking for a passionate VP Engineering to lead our Photobox teams based in London and Lviv (gradually progressing towards our pan European locations). Reporting to our CTO you will be responsible for ten product and engineering teams with over 70 leaders and engineers. You will need to inspire, coach and support our engineering teams to be the best that they can be.

Our teams are cross-functional and accountable for interfaces and services that power our Apps, Editing Experiences, Shopping Experience, Acquisition and Ecommerce APIs. They are constantly striving for quality software solutions that have maximum impact within our culture of quality and personal accountability.

An understanding of large-scale e-commerce platforms, building for both app and web based customer journeys, experience building scalable web services and an appreciation of the challenges engineers face would be beneficial. Coaching members of your team, peers and upwards across all of our groups brands (albelli, Bonusprint, Monalbumphoto, Photobox, Hofmann and PosterXXL). You will be passionate about quality, predictability, delivery, and scalability to help teams fulfil their mission and achieve their goals..

Our customer base is changing the way that they interact with us and we need to transform our approach to capture this demand. This role will play a key part in helping us with this transformation away from a predominately desktop based organisation. Leveraging our existing platform to solve customer problems on the platform where their photos exist.

You will play a key role in creating and refining the principles and processes that we take to enable engineering at scale across multiple locations. This role is both operational and strategic helping engineers and teams find the right balance between consistency and autonomy.

You will have an engineering background and have a good understanding of architectural practices. You will be an advocate of Agile engineering practices and help us support a culture of continuous improvement. You will also have prior line management experience with a track record of keeping highly skilled leaders and their engineers motivated and engaged.

Mentoring and developing team members’ careers and supporting individuals and teams to reach their full potential. You will support your teams to refine their processes and take the lead in driving engineering initiatives to improve productivity. We believe in TDD and continuous delivery and this should be a passion of yours.

You will be delivering sustainable growth and managing a large existing legacy code base. The role is 10% technical and 90% psychological. You will be managing C-level stakeholders and permanently pursuing the best balance between delivering functionality and non-functional aspects for the platforms.
